Series 6 Sprint Pod: We can all do great things- Running Blog
The Pyllon Ultra Pod, Blog! - Sprint Series 6
We can all do great things.
I truly believe that. What we need to accept is that our version of great is good enough and that if it is ambitious enough it requires a level of determination. There’s no getting away from the fact that self-talk is can be used for positive and negative effect. And it is easy to say “you choose how you talk to yourself…” etc. But that is, well, too easy and not exactly true. This week’s blog is the support scribbles to James’s podcast. The second in the current sprint series. Paul and James are tag-teaming on Confidence and Belief. You can read the last blog here. In Pod 2 James asks to you to become more aware of your self-talk. To observe it and to then use a flip-reverse on your view on challenges to overcome them. Be realistically aware is the message.
The flip from how can I…thinking to how I can… thinking takes conscious practice and awareness. For example, you may be looking at a 100 mile race as an ambition and thinking how can I possibly do something of this scale and size? That is really fair. It is overwhelming and massive. But what if you looked at the same ambition and event and said how I can do this something of this scale and size is to… and then you listed the changes and challenges ahead on the path to success? You move from problem to solution. From being stuck to finding ways around the block.
Then there are three things that if you focus on them you have a real chance of making that ambition turn into reality. And all of this is grounded in how you see and talk to yourself. James calls them the 3Cs.
C- change
C- commitment
C- consistency
These are self-explanatory. Go after what you need to change, get clear on it and why. Then commitment to it and the actions needed. Then, stay the course.
SPARK ACTION: Here’s a little exercise for you
Identify something you are stuck on, something you are perhaps in a how can I…? mindset on
Try approaching it with a how I can… view and identify lines of possibility to go forward
Bucket that action set as a change and go after it
Then it is all about being committed and consistent. Go plant some acorns!
